As a content marketer, I have been on SEMrush for three years. When Adobe completed the $1.9 billion acquisition in April 2026, the first thing I did was check my renewal date.
SEMrush is not broken. The acquisition did not change what the tool does overnight. But Adobe's pricing history with acquired software — Creative Cloud, Acrobat, Marketo — points in one direction. If you are not embedded in the Adobe enterprise stack, you are eventually paying for integrations you do not use.
The semrush alternatives question is not new. The acquisition made it more urgent.
There are two tools I would move to if I were switching today. SE Ranking if you need close to the same feature breadth at a lower starting price. Mangools if you need clean keyword research and rank tracking without paying for site audit depth, PPC data, and competitive intelligence you rarely open. Everything else in this post is supporting detail.
What the Adobe acquisition actually changes
Adobe announced the deal in November 2025 at $12 per share — a 77.5% premium over SEMrush's prior closing price. The acquisition completed on April 28, 2026, at a total equity value of approximately $1.9 billion.
The strategic logic is straightforward: Adobe wanted a brand visibility and SEO intelligence layer alongside Experience Cloud and Firefly. SEMrush gives them that. The combination makes sense for enterprise marketing teams already deep in the Adobe ecosystem.
The concern is not the strategic fit. It is the pricing floor. Adobe's pattern with acquired products is to bundle them into broader suites and raise the entry price toward enterprise tiers. Teams not already in the Adobe ecosystem end up paying for integrations with Firefly, Experience Cloud, and Marketo that add zero value to their workflow.
Nothing has changed on SEMrush's pricing page as of this writing. But "no immediate changes" is not the same as "pricing stays where it is." For teams running SEMrush on Pro or Guru and not already embedded in the Adobe stack, now is the right moment to understand what you would move to — not because a switch is necessary today, but because decisions made under renewal pressure are rarely the best ones.

SE Ranking
SE Ranking is the closest equivalent to SEMrush at a lower price point. It covers keyword research, site audit, rank tracking, backlink monitoring, competitor research, and a content marketing module — from a starting price of $129/month, or $103.20/month on annual billing.
That is the case for it in two sentences. The rest is what changes at each tier and where it falls short of the tool it is replacing.
For a complete breakdown of every feature, read the SE Ranking Review 2026. What follows is the comparison to SEMrush directly.
Keyword research
SE Ranking's keyword database covers difficulty, search intent, related terms, and questions. The keyword clustering module groups lists by SERP similarity — useful when mapping content across a topic cluster and avoiding pages that compete with each other for the same query. The database is smaller than SEMrush's but the data on English commercial queries is reliable.
The Competitor Research module surfaces the keywords driving traffic to any domain. Enter a competitor URL and it returns their top organic keywords, top pages by traffic, and a 12-month traffic trend. For teams running a content gap analysis, this is the feature they will use most.
Site audit
The crawl covers broken internal links, missing meta descriptions, slow pages, redirect chains, duplicate content, and structured data errors — the same categories SEMrush audits. Issue categorisation follows the same error/warning/notice split. The Core plan crawls up to 40,000 pages per audit.
Core Web Vitals monitoring runs at the project level. It tracks LCP, CLS, and INP for your tracked pages and alerts when scores change materially.
Rank tracking
Daily tracking at 2,000 positions on the Core plan. Rankings are broken down by device, location, and SERP feature type — Featured Snippets, AI Overviews, Local Pack, and video results tracked separately.
AI Overview tracking is included from the Core plan. If a tracked keyword triggers an AI Overview, SE Ranking logs it and shows which content the AI pulled. No surprises here: AI visibility tracking is table stakes in this category now, not a differentiator. Every serious SEO platform added it in 2025. The question is whether the data refreshes daily and integrates with your rank tracking view rather than sitting in a separate dashboard you open once a month. SE Ranking's does.
SE Ranking covers keyword research, site audit, rank tracking, and competitor analysis from $103.20/month on annual billing. The 14-day free trial requires no credit card.

Who it is for
Teams switching from SEMrush who need close to the same feature set without the Adobe premium. Agencies managing multiple client accounts who want white-label reporting without paying Business-tier prices. In-house SEO leads who need site audit, keyword research, rank tracking, and competitive analysis in one interface.
Who should skip it
Solo operators publishing monthly on a single site. The $129/month Core plan covers significantly more than you will use. Mangools at $19.90/month covers the keyword and rank tracking data without the audit depth you do not need.
Teams whose primary need is content optimisation — scoring drafts against the SERP in real time. SE Ranking has a content marketing module, but it is not the same precision instrument as Surfer SEO for that specific task. For a direct comparison of content-specific tools, see the SEO content tools comparison.

Mangools
Mangools is five tools on one subscription: KWFinder for keyword research, SERPChecker for SERP analysis, SERPWatcher for rank tracking, LinkMiner for backlink analysis, and SiteProfiler for domain authority and competitor overview. The Entry plan at $19.90/month annual includes all five.
The reason to choose Mangools over SE Ranking is not features — SE Ranking covers more. It is fit. Mangools is built for a different user: someone who needs keyword research and rank tracking to work well, wants data that is accurate and readable without a training investment, and does not need full site audit depth, PPC competitive data, or multi-seat client reporting.
For the full breakdown of each tool, see the Mangools Review 2026.
KWFinder
KWFinder is the core tool. Enter a keyword and it returns monthly search volume, Keyword Difficulty (0–100), and a SERP preview showing the top 10 results with domain authority, backlink count, and estimated monthly visits per page. The KD score is based on the link profile of the pages currently ranking — below 30 is attainable for a site with moderate authority and a focused content strategy.
The location data is a genuine differentiator at this price point. KWFinder carries volume data for over 52,000 locations down to city level. For local SEO — a service business targeting a specific region — the granularity is stronger than most tools at any price.
The Entry plan gives you 100 keyword searches per day and 200 suggestions per search. Enough for a solo operator running a structured keyword programme. The Premium plan at $44.90/month annual removes most practical limits.
SERPWatcher
Daily rank tracking with a Dominance Index — a weighted composite score combining all your tracked keywords' positions and volumes into one number. It tells you whether your organic footprint is growing or shrinking overall, rather than requiring you to interpret 200 individual keyword movements each week. A practical feature that SE Ranking and SEMrush both lack at this level of simplicity.
LinkMiner
Pulls the backlink profile for any URL. At Entry, 25 competitor analyses per day. Covers anchor text distribution, linking domain authority, and new versus lost links over time. For a team prospecting and tracking link placements manually, this replaces the need for a standalone backlink tool.
Where Mangools falls short
No content optimisation tools. If you need to score drafts against the SERP while writing, Surfer SEO is the correct answer and Mangools does not compete.
No full technical site audit. SiteProfiler gives you a domain overview and top pages — it does not crawl for broken links, missing meta descriptions, or Core Web Vitals failures. For site audit on a single property at no cost, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools covers it.
Pricing
Entry — $29/month ($19.90 annual): 100 KWFinder searches/day, 200 tracked keywords, 25 competitor analyses/day. All 5 tools included.
Premium — $69/month ($44.90 annual): 1,200 searches/day, 1,500 tracked keywords, 150 competitor analyses/day.
Agency — $129/month ($89.90 annual): 1,200 searches/day, 10,000 tracked keywords, unlimited site lookups.

Two other tools worth knowing
These are not primary recommendations. They fit specific situations the two tools above do not cover.
Ahrefs
Ahrefs remains the strongest backlink tool in the category. The index is larger and the data fresher than any other platform. If link prospecting or toxic link auditing is the primary use case, the $108/month Lite plan is worth it. Ahrefs closed its public affiliate programme in 2022 — which partly explains why it appears less frequently in comparison posts. That is not a reason to discount it. For teams where backlink intelligence drives the programme, it is still the reference tool.
Ubersuggest
Neil Patel's Ubersuggest starts at $12/month. For someone running a single site who needs basic keyword volume and difficulty data and nothing else, it covers the fundamentals at the lowest price in the category. At low-volume, niche B2B terms the data accuracy weakens compared to Mangools.
When not to switch
If you are mid-contract with SEMrush and pricing has not changed, switching speculatively adds friction without saving money yet. The acquisition concern is real but not urgent today.
If your programme relies on SEMrush-specific features — the full Keyword Gap tool running five-domain comparisons across a large keyword universe, or Traffic Analytics estimating competitor traffic by channel — neither SE Ranking nor Mangools replaces that depth yet.
If your team is already invested in the Adobe ecosystem, the integration roadmap may eventually produce value for you. Switching now removes that option.
For a single-site operator who has never paid for an SEO tool, the answer is not which alternative to buy — it is whether to buy one at all. For most small businesses publishing content monthly, Google Search Console combined with the free tier of Ahrefs Webmaster Tools covers keyword visibility, site errors, and backlink data at no cost. Add a paid tool when you have outgrown what those show you.
If the constraint is not tooling but execution — you have the keyword targets and the briefs, but the writing and publishing do not happen — our content writing service covers keyword research, briefs, and on-page SEO applied from the first draft. The tool is a means to an end. The end is published content that ranks.
Need the content produced, not just the tools to produce it
If the keyword targets exist but the writing and publishing do not happen, our content writing service covers keyword research, briefs, and on-page SEO from the first draft. You review the draft.
